Experience
I am a native of San Antonio and a graduate of the International School of the Americas. At age 16, I became an AmeriCorps member and co-founded a national high school service program for students called City Heroes, completing over 1800 hours of community service during my senior year. After graduating first in my class in 1999, I moved to Boston, Massachusetts where I attended Wellesley College. While in college, I studied abroad at the University of Cape Town in South Africa, and spent a semester participating in the Student International Training program in Fortaleza, Brazil. I received my B.A in 2003, and accepted a job in Washington, DC as a National Student & Campaign Organizer for Global Justice, Inc. I have worked as a teacher and educational consultant in Puebla, Mexico and Hangzhou, China, and in 2008, began working as a college advisor for the Intercultural Development Research Association (IDRA) in San Antonio, TX. I truly enjoy advising and assisting students in the college application process. My goal is to help each student get into their top choice college. My services include; college readiness and preparation sessions focused on resume building, navigation through the college application process, essay writing, letters of recommendation tactics, mentorship and networking opportunities, internship placement, parent and student counseling in financial aid and scholarships, organizational development and leadership skills.

Hobbies
Because each and every student learns differently, I do my best to personalize my sessions so that the student and parents can actively track the progress being made each week. I am a firm believer in self-help tactics and tough-love, and have been known to assign homework to both my students and parents when needed. I have also developed lasting relationships with many of my students and their parents throughout my years as an advisor. One student commented; “I wouldn't have gotten this far and done as much to get to my 4-year college if it wasn't for Jennifer Longfellow. She has been with me every step of the way; helping me with my essays, resumes, and applications. I got help choosing what schools I wanted to apply to, and I wouldn't have applied for an internship if it wasn't for my college advisor. The program has helped me overcome my fear in applying for college and even to colleges I dreamt of but thought I would never have a chance in applying or getting. I've been fortunate to have an advisor that has pushed to get things done so I may go to the colleges of my choice.
