Experience

I earned my Master of Arts in teaching degree from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. I'm certified to teach at the elementary school level and have taught first through third grade public school students. I also did substitute teaching for PK-8 private school students.I am a teacher at heart whose passion for teaching is driven by helping elementary school children ace the basics. Specifically, I enjoy the fundamentals of division, multiplication, addition, subtraction, and basic number concepts. It's also rewarding to help with language development, particularly with free writing, spelling, and grammar. I tap into innovation in the classroom when looking for ways to motivate my students, using games or other creative tools. My goal is to get them to comprehend concepts rather than rules or formula sets. I practice the belief that learning is based on process as opposed to product or the outcome. My greatest measure of success with students is seeing that light in their eyes when they understand a challenging problem. I offer a unique perspective in the tutoring session cultivated from my experiences as a PK-8 substitute teacher, elementary school teacher, and as a teacher who has worked with special education students. I've discovered a deep appreciation for diversity, compassion, patience, and adaptability. When I'm not in the classroom, you can find me reading, scrapbooking, and watching movies.  I'm also an avid fan of Star Wars!
