Hi, I'm Chiharu. I am originally from Kyoto, Japan, and I speak both Japanese and English. I was an EFL teacher at private high schools in Japan for several years before I came to the US to get a master's degree in TESOL. I had a unique opportunity to start my teaching career in the United States soon after I got the degree, and I have been a teacher in the US since then. My teaching experiences are mostly in a classroom setting at colleges, language schools and high schools, but I picked up some tutoring opportunities and started to give private language lessons as I was a classroom teacher. I currently teach at a local college a few days a week and give private lessons to several students when I am not in the classroom, and I enjoy teaching in both venues. As for my tutoring experience, I have tutored high school students who were struggling with their TOEFL scores and overall English skills, some graduate students who needed supplemental ESL lessons to perform better in their business class, middle school, high school and college students who wanted to learn Japanese and needed guided assistance for their study, and some adult students who wanted to learn Japanese for their career advancement and who are simply interested in Japanese language and culture and want to learn them. I am confident that I can help you learn Japanese or English as a Second Language at all levels. My lessons have been popular and well-received among my students. With my unique background of being a former ESL student and with deep linguistics knowledge combined with teaching experiences, I can predict problematic areas in language learning, understand students' struggle and frustration, and support my students as I provide more effective lessons and advice either in Japanese or English lessons. Teaching languages is my passion, and I love helping and seeing my students improve their language skills! I am confident that I can make a difference in your life through language lessons. I like music and singing. I play the piano and the guitar, and I like using music to facilitate learning languages. I also love cooking, and of course eating as well :) But most of all, I love teaching! Teaching is my passion.
