Education

Hi, my name is Jordan! I've tutored for the SAT, PSAT, and GRE on-and-off for the past five years. I graduated from Rice University in 2012 with a degree in bioengineering, and in 2015 I received a Master's degree in global health from Duke University. A little more about me: I currently work as a consultant in international public health, spending several months each year conducting infectious disease research in Africa and the Middle East, and the remaining time in Central Texas. When in the U.S., I often work remotely, and enjoy tutoring in my spare time - especially with the goal of helping students achieve their potential for college and graduate school admissions requirements. I would love to help students out with the SAT, SAT subject tests, GRE, or college and graduate school applications! As a student, I received a 2380 on the SAT, a 239 on the PSAT, and scored in the 98th percentile on the GRE.

Experience

I spent a summer teaching 9th grade science with a program called Breakthrough Collaborative. Though teaching isn't my passion, the experience taught me a lot about what it takes to make a subject stick, and helped me adapt to working with a wide variety of learning types. I'm available to tutor students looking for assistance with college applications, the SAT and SAT subject tests, essay writing, and anything science-related. On SAT Tutoring: ------------------------------- I spent my last two years of high school helping my peers out with the SAT and have continued to help out younger students throughout college. My tutoring method focuses on identifying and improving weaknesses - I'll typically ask a student to take a diagnostic test to pinpoint the types of questions the student is struggling with. We'll then drill relentlessly on those particular question types until the weakness has become a strength. I also provide some strategic overviews on how to approach each section, as well as personalized strategies for the writing section. - I've extensively tutored seven clients, and have received score data for two. One went from an SAT score of 1730 to 2030; another went from a 157 on the PSAT to a 1990 on his first SAT. On College Applications & Essays: ---------------------------------- I'm very willing to help out with the college application process - I was accepted to 13 of the 14 schools I applied to and have gathered a thorough understanding of what many universities look for in applicants. I've published multiple articles in national newspapers, and I'm happy to edit papers and dissertations at high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels. SCORES SAT: 2380 (780 math, 800 critical reading, 800 writing) SAT Subject Tests: 800 biology, 800 math II, 790 chemistry PSAT: 239 AP TESTS: English Language, English Literature, Psychology, Statistics, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Biology, Physics C Mechanics, US History, US Government: 5 Physics C Electricty and Magnetism: 4 I graduated from high school in 2008 as salutatorian, with a weighted GPA of 114.
