As a certified reading specialist and classroom teacher, I value the importance of quality education. I want to help children find a love for reading. As a young child I did not love to read and therefore never wanted to read for school or fun. I understand the struggle this poses for students, parents, and teachers. It wasn't until 8th grade, that I started to love reading, and the connection between enjoyment and learning was astounding. Actually choosing to pick up the book increased my comprehension skills, writing skills, vocabulary, etc. It made a world of difference. Throughout my years of teaching English and History, I have had so many students who do not enjoy reading and therefore struggle in school. My goal is to show those children different ways to approach reading so that it is not a chore. In my experience, once you change the way struggling readers view reading, you will see a positive change in their schoolwork, as well as their mindset. I would love the opportunity to work with you and your child. Even though I specialize in Reading, I am certified in all subjects. I graduated with my masters degree in 2008 and have since been educating children.
