Experience
As a writing tutor, I try to express my passion for writing and light the same fire in my students to help them reach their potential. I convey that writing is not a rigid art form. It can be as fun as reading. Both create endless boundaries for creativity and self discovery. I was fortunate to get a good education and understand the impact a teacher has on young minds. Organization, relationship development, and executing to results are transferable skills I've brought into teaching. I'm certified to teach 7th to 12th grade English/Language Arts Reading. For the past five years, I've worked in the San Antonio school system and also with City Year providing one-on-one and group academic and emotional support to at-risk youth. I identify students who are off track and may not advance to the next grade, which increases their chances of dropping out. The goal is to find these kids, provide attendance and behavior coaching, and get them caught up in math and English core classes. I also volunteered to tutor 4th graders at a high-need school and started a library at a subsidized housing apartment complex.When not teaching, I like to read, cook, and exercise.
