Private tutor in San Antonio, TX
University of Washington-Seattle Campus - Bachelors, Women Studies and Comparative History of Ideas
I attended the University of Washington-Seattle. I currently hold ELAR certification for grades 7-12. I have tutored for over 8 years and worked with students from kindergarten through college. I have over 6 years of experience developing curriculum and 2 years of experience teaching, which includes creating and implementing lesson plans. I taught English for Teach for America, where I had the opportunity to work with students who had very diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. I was awarded the Rising Star Teaching Award and was named Star Educator from a culturally responsive teaching fellowship. I have worked with students as a mentor and supervisor to help them with their college and scholarship applications and tutored them in SAT prep. I have also organized and lead after school programs. I have been described as quirky, honorable, and inspiring, and I have been known to challenge the students in my class. I try to learn what their goals are, and then I help the student understand how the subject we are studying can help them in their future. I utilize the "I do, we do, and then you do" method so that my students get the practice they need to be successful. In my free time, I love to read. I enjoy graphic novels, science fiction, and literature. I am also a cyclist, and I like to ride my bike around San Antonio.
