Private tutor in San Antonio, TX
I am a rising junior at Wellesley College, a high-ranking liberal arts institution in the Boston area. I have earned a GPA of 3.6 in my two years at Wellesley, and will graduate in 2019 with a BA in Psychology. While my major is in the social sciences, I have a well-rounded writing background given the diverse curriculum of my college.
I work as a trained and paid Peer Writing Tutor at Wellesley College. I provide my services at the college's Learning and Teaching Center. I have experience tutoring undergraduate students with writing assignments in subjects such as English, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Biology, Art History, Media Studies, and Ethnic Studies, to name a few. I applied for the competitive Writing Tutor position last year at the enthusiastic recommendation of my writing professor (with whom I took WRIT 164 - How the Supreme Court Shapes America). Though I was only a first-year at the time, I was hired due to my strong writing and interpersonal skills. I began working when I entered my sophomore year in the fall of 2016, and quickly came to love the job. It has made me all the more enthusiastic about writing, and I often feel I learn as much from my tutees as they do from me. I will continue tutoring my peers until I graduate in 2019. Most of my tutees request help with thesis-driven essays or research papers. I am well-equipped to provide assistance with those types of assignments and many more, including response papers, summaries, memos, abstracts, and case reports. I can help you at any stage in the writing process, whether you're brainstorming, outlining, drafting, revising, or proofreading/editing. Whether you come to me with a literal blank page, notes, a working thesis statement, a few paragraphs, or a nearly finished draft, I'll be at your service! I can also provide tutoring services for high school-level writing assignments, college admissions essays, internship/job applications, cover letters, and resume writing. I have been overjoyed to see a few of my tutees successfully apply for jobs with my writing assistance. It is important to bear in mind that I am here to provide you with guidance on your writing, rather than to assist with content knowledge in any particular discipline. In other words, I can help you write a stellar essay, but I can't tell you the specific facts you need to know about your subject since I likely haven't taken the class you're in. I can, however, advise you on incorporating sources in your essay, whether they come from your class materials or are external. I can also connect you with resources to assist with any research you may need to do for your assignment. As for my own writing background, I have written an abundance of thesis-driven (persuasive/argumentative) essays, research papers, abstracts, case reports, personal responses, and more for my courses in Writing, Psychology, Political Science, Sociology, Astronomy, Geosciences, History, Music, Cinema and Media Studies, and East Asian Studies. I feel it is also worth mentioning that in high school, I earned a score of 750 on the SAT Writing section (this was the older version of the exam) and a 5 on the AP English Language and Composition exam. I am confident that these scores, along with my college admissions essays and other qualifications, made me a strong applicant to Wellesley College.
